Justice InDeed hopes to empower Washtenaw County residents to identify and repeal racially restrictive covenants (“RRC”) on their homes. Thanks to a recent law passed by the Michigan legislature, it’s now easier than ever for property owners and renters alike to repeal an RRC on their home, apartment, or condominium. This detailed toolkit provides step-by-step guides for homeowners, renters, and homeowner’s association members who wish to repeal the RRC on their home.

What is a homeowners association (HOA)? An HOA is governing body that has mandatory dues and governs the way homeowners in a subdivision or gated community may their property. It is different from a neighborhood association, which is a voluntary association.
